The Saracen Foundry in Possilpark

Founded in Glasgow in 1849 by Walter Macfarlane (1817-1885), the firm was originally based in Saracen Lane, Gallowgate. They relocated briefly to Washington Street, 1862, and then moved to a purpose built foundry on Sir Archibald Alison’s former Possil Estate in 1872, creating the suburb of Possilpark to house the firm’s vast workforce. more

Queens Cross Housing Association

Queens Cross Housing Association (QCHA) is a community-based housing association. They provide nearly 4,500 homes that stretch north from Glasgow city centre, following the historic Forth and Clyde Canal. They are part of the community and run lots of projects, events and activities that bring people of all ages and backgrounds together. more

And I think part of what the work was also about was about trying to deal with what Stuart Hall says in his essay ‘The Local and the Global’, ‘to try and recover some of the broken histories and invent appropriate narrative forms for them’. So, I was trying to kind of go back to that idea of the pen and the mark and understanding what that space was and how do I fill it. And also addressing an idea or fact and a situation of the history being broken.
